Final: The Wall card game
The point of the final was to create four different cards in a game called "The Wall." There is a reinforcement card, damage card, wall card and a card back design.
I had fun with this one. I used Photoshop for the artwork but then put it into illustrator and made sure it fit the template. I also tried to get them all to look like they go together even though that wasn't required.
I'm glad I had the chance to do this and that it was the final. :)

Assignment 17: Art Deco Poster
This assignment's purpose was to learn how to use the style art deco.
I used photoshop for the illustration part of it, including the grain texture. I then saved and placed it into InDesign where I added text. I also wanted to add a border, but thought it would be a little too much....not sure.
I enjoyed this one alot, but it took awhile for me to figure out what exactly I wanted to do in the first place, once I got an idea that was more than a building, boat or plane, (I wanted to do something different) I was on a roll. :)

Assignment 16: Zoetrope
This one was fun to do but I had a ton of issues with exporting.....but the point of the assignment is to create movement like an old fashion zoetrope.
I made a star because...well I like stars.... and I used Illustrator, and tried to use After Effects.
I finally got it to work on exporting but there were some glitches in the video upon rendering :(
Assignment 15: Infographic
This assignment was an easier way to do the infographic than in my previous class. The point of the infographic was to explain the anatomy of a zombie lol.
I drew the artwork in illustrator, brought the file into InDesign and started making my buttons and (the secret way to bring up facts). I exported it as an interactive PDF and there you go!
I enjoyed this one but for some reason my rollovers only show up if you roll over them really quickly....hmmm

Assignment 14: Email Newsletter
Learning how to use old school Dreamweaver techniques.
I used the materials given and Dreamweaver/Photoshop CS6
This one got slightly frustrating just because I would accidentally place the cursor one spot over and things wouldn't show up, once I realized my mistakes it went smoother. :)
Assignment 13: Content management
The point of the assignment was to learn how to use a content management system like WordPress.
I of course did this one on my dog Luna, who is a pitbull and the sweetest animal in the world, plus I had a ton of pictures of her, so it made it easy. I chose the Sema theme for the WordPress site and used a photo of Luna as the header which I cropped in Photoshop.
I thought this one was fairly easy and I enjoyed putting it together.

Assignment 12: Sliced Webpage
The point of the assignment was to create a webpage that was put together seamlessly with slicing in Photoshop. I went for something simple but with a spring feel, because....why not?
I first made a background, put some eggs, numbers and text on, merged a few layers and then started using the cutting tool. I cut mine into three sections. The left "egg link" section, the header that says Well, Hello there! and the right bottom section with the huge white box. I then put them into Dreamweaver using divs and floating tools to create the seamless look.
I had a fun time with this one, but when I went to the navbar generator to give the eggs a drop shadow effect when clicked, it wouldn't allow me to make the rollover, just the normal state....hmmm not sure why???
Other than that not working, I think it went well.
Assignment 11: Slam Cover
I had fun with this one and it took a long time but I think it was worth it. My goal was to do a fun rendition of Vincent Van Gogh's self portrait. I wanted to do something graphic with a painter feel.
I used Photoshop mostly and was pretty close to 20 layers by the end, I didn't use any other program in this one. I made a second one and imported it into illustrator and did some fun effects on it and used the inner glow effect on the background.
Also for some reason blogger is saying that my folio JPGs need to images or videos and will not upload. I did one folio is a paintbrush and one (because I have a horrible sense of humor) is an ear ;) but I promise they are finished and will be on the mDrive

Assignment 10: Shape animation
For this assignment I wanted to create something fun and eye-catching, while playing around with shapes.
I first made a few shape layers and added in effects to colorize them and make them move how I wanted to, this was done in Adobe After Effects. Once I was done and rendered, I transferred it to Premiere Pro to put in royalty free music from Incompetech.com and a couple transitions.
I really had fun with this one and can't wait for some free time to explore what else I can do with just shapes in After Effects!

Assignment 9: Thematic Text
Before
After
For this assignment the point was to animate the text to look like whatever word you chose.
I used Photoshop to make individual masks on each letter and then a paintbursh to get rid of flat edges and make the letters look more fluid. I exported for web as PNGs and imported them into Adobe Edge Animate. I then made buttons, used coding, clipped the photos and saved all of my work.
I had fun with this one, but I think picking something like silk was a little difficult. I also probably should have did a lighter background or a lighter color silk so that it was easier to see. I really enjoyed the assignment though.
:)
Assignment 8: Graphics tablet drawing
The object of the assignment was to draw something on a graphics tablet that wasn't just a one tone color.
I basically just took the pen on the tablet and doodled while using Photoshop.
I liked this one because I could do whatever and however I wanted to do it. Made it fun and simple.

Assignment 7: Galleria
Shelly Bz's photo gallery
Here you can check out my photo gallery of the Dominican Republic.
I had an issue with my page saving as the theme name so that was pretty frustrating, guess it could be worse. I'm not a huge Dreamweaver fan, which is what I did the page in so I was banging my head against the desk for the weekend........ I also created my own header in Photoshop, which I do like lol.

Assignment 6: 3D Pop-up Photo gallery
I was trying to make a moving photo gallery of my pitbull Luna.
I used Adobe After Effects to set up the ground plane, and put in all the pictures, camera and lights required for the assignment. I then exported the file and opened it in Premiere pro where I added an opening title and some music from incompetech.com.
I feel like the project was successful but I had some issues with the lights in AE, it was either too bright or not bright enough no matter where I moved them and that was extremely frustrating.

Assignment Four: Lowercase letters, numbers and symbols.
As with the previous assignment, I had the same issues and the same pulling of the hair and flinging coffee on the walls and floor. After a quick clean-up I finally had the finished assignment
I basically used the same programs and skills associated with assignment four.
I feel like this one is average, nothing special that stands out about it, wish it was better, but maybe i'll try to do a new font on my own time over break from school... hmm..
Assignment Three: Uppercase Font
So this one was a bit of a tough one for me, but I'll get to that in a minute. I was tasked with creating a custom font with all uppercase letters. I was initially excited for it, but it proved to be a pain when it came to using the font creator program.
I used illustrator and my graphics tablet to draw the initial letters then tried to copy and paste them into the font creator as instructed. It would not paste, just kept saying it was too large or complex, even after I had shrunk the letters down to an ungodly size.
I ended up having to save each individual letter in RGB format, export it as a JPEG, import an image onto the font creator, generate the glyph then re-size. This had to be done for all of the letters, and including the upcoming assignment...... I wanted to throw my computer out the window.
What I have as the finished project is so-so and would have been better if I wouldn't of had all of the software issues :(
Assignment Two: Making my own decal
So for assignment three I got to play around and design, cut, layer and weed out my own decal. I actually had a lot of fun with this one and my brain is now swirling with exciting things that I can put on my car, without making it look like an ice cream truck plastered with stickers.
Since I'm a big Seahawks fan, (Superbowl baby!!!) I decided to make a decal to show my love and support for the team.
When it comes to technical skills, I created the decal in Adobe illustrator by using the warp tool on the Seattle skyline and then making seperate layers for the two Seahawks lettering in green and white. I then took the files to school, saved them as an illustrator 8 file and imported them into the software that cuts the decals. I then proceeded to weed out the parts of vinyl I didn't want and to take masking tape to begin layering the three sections.
I think I did well on this assignment and it looks awesome on my car. I hope to create a few more before I graduate and learn what I can.

Assignment One: Animated photoshop brushes
So I've included my video above for this assignment.
Basically I was trying to accomplish an effect of swirls and lavishes being drawn right in front of your eyes, while still not distracting you from my fat cat Heidi.
When it comes to technical skills, I used four different programs. I started in Photoshop to choose my brushes and size my chosen photograph. I then exported it to Adobe Flash Professional where I animated the brushes by using a brush tool and slowly masking out parts of the effect. I then exported again to After Effects to give some color change using the Colorama effect and to (Gaussian) blur out the end of the sequence. Finally I exported it to Premiere Pro and added music which I got off of a royalty free site called incompetech.com. The music title is Vivacity.
I think I did okay on the first assignment. My brush masks could have definitely been smoother and not so choppy, but overall it gave a neat effect.

Intro!
Hey everybody!
My name is Shelly and I am a returning college student. I have three classes left before graduating with an AA in digital design, hopefully I can continue and get my bachelors but that costs money right?!
I am making this blog for my DDSGN220 class and hopefully you will all enjoy my work and not snicker at me behind my back ;)
When I grow up, (because being almost 29 does not make me an adult!) I want to work in designing advertisements or make movie posters or anything that will fall in my lap so I can pay off student loans.
So that's me in a small amount of words, hope you enjoy.
